System-wide fundraising efforts raise nearly $30 million to help fight neuromuscular disorders
PARSIPPANY, NJ (August 28, 2001) – While others focus mostly on balancing career and family, ERA Real Estate professionals have been working for a quarter century on behalf of thousands of people they've never met. Since 1977, real estate brokerages affiliated with ERA Franchise Systems LLC have made time in their lives to raise nearly $30 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's effort to help children and adults with neuromuscular diseases.
ERA Real Estate will mark its 25th anniversary milestone on September 2-3, 2001 at the national MDA Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon in Los Angeles. ERA® Vice President Dave Mathis, also a national vice president for MDA, will appear with telethon host Jerry Lewis and others to present the system's pledges during the 24-hour broadcast.
ERA Real Estate has participated in the national telethon since 1977 when it became the real estate industry's exclusive corporate sponsor of MDA. Since then, ERA® brokers and sales associates have been raising money to fund medical research and provide services to help more than 1 million Americans affected by muscular dystrophy.
"Working together, thousands of ERA® system members have helped MDA to conduct groundbreaking research and provide much-needed services on a daily basis," said Mathis. "As our annual fund-raising goals have become more ambitious, our ERA® team has met every challenge, thanks to the creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication of our brokers, sales associates and other ERA® professionals to this worthy cause."
ERA® network brokerages nationwide sponsor various fundraising events throughout the year, including golf tournaments, walk-a-thons, black tie galas and silent auctions to raise money for the non-profit organization. This year's top fundraiser is ERA Jack Hughes Real Estate & Construction in Dothan, AL. Led by broker-owners Jack and Martha Hughes, ERA Jack Hughes Real Estate & Construction earned the 2001 Ed Bilinkas Memorial Award, given annually to the ERA® franchise that raises the most funds for MDA.
