Real estate network presents donation to help those in need
PARSIPPANY, NJ, August 29, 2002 - Celebrities and national sponsors, including ERA Real Estate, will help raise millions of dollars to benefit people with neuromuscular diseases during the "2002 Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon" in Hollywood (CA). This year, ERA Real Estate will mark its 25th consecutive appearance on the telethon to present contributions raised by its membership and corporate staff.
ERA Real Estate joined MDA's battle against neuromuscular diseases in 1977. Since then, ERA® members have raised more than $30 million to fund research and provide services to help more than one million Americans affected by muscular dystrophy.
ERA National MDA Vice President Dave Mathis will appear with host Jerry Lewis and others to present the system's pledge during a 21-and-a-half hour program broadcast by more than 200 television stations to 75 million viewers in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.

Jack and Martha Hughes of ERA Jack Hughes Real Estate & Construction in Dothan, (AL) will appear on the telethon to present the ERA annual contribution. ERA Jack Hughes Real Estate & Construction is this year's recipient of the Ed Bilinkas Memorial Award, an honor awarded to the ERA company raising the most funds for MDA.
Those who raised the most money during "Day in May for MDA," a program in which ERA affiliates chose one day in May to collect funds for the charity through organizing events or collecting contributions from business partners, will also attend the telethon. Top fundraising Sales Associate Alfonse Vaiano of ERA A.J. Real Estate in Richmond Hill (NY) and Broker Doug Freeman of the top fundraising office, ERA Freeman & Associates, Realtors of Gresham (OR) will be special guests of MDA.
ERA representatives will have a front row seat to one of the world's biggest fundraising events. While the telethon always features a mix of corporate sponsors and musical talent, it also serves as a vehicle for educating the public about neuromuscular diseases and the people they affect. The broadcast includes profiles of families living with progressive muscle-degenerating disorders and the progress of MDA-funded research.
In addition to the profile stories and celebrities who perform during the marathon event, representatives of the ERA network appear on local broadcasts to tell about their year-round support of MDA.
ERA Vice President of Service Support Scott Becker will present a check for more than $70,000 to MDA during the local New York metro telethon broadcast. The money was raised at the "Cendant Real Estate Charity Golf Classic" held in June (ERA is a subsidiary of Cendant). Additionally, ERA Director of Integrated Marketing Angela McNiece will present a check for $10,000, which represents funds generated from a silent auction and several employee events such as a bake sale and bowl-a-thon.
