ERA AFFILIATE FOREGOES INDIVIDUAL HONORS TO HELP OTHERS CELEBRATE LIFE
Recognition efforts at Richmond-based Napier Realtors® ERA focus on improving lives of cancer patients PARSIPPANY, NJ, October 31, 2002 - What started as a one-time act of philanthropy has blossomed into a strong community partnership. Two years ago, top producing sales associates at Napier Realtors® ERA in Richmond (VA) celebrated their success, not with plaques but a $4,000 donation to its community Massey Cancer Center (MCC). "The decision to support the Massey Cancer Center was important to us," explains company President Jim Napier. "Just about everyone in our company has been touched in some way by cancer. Two of our sales associates are cancer survivors and another is undergoing treatment. The staff didn't think twice about foregoing their personal accolades to contribute to life-saving research and programs." As part of the charitable venture, the company donates the anticipated cost of the plaque production on behalf of its associates. Napier Realtors® ERA matches the teams' contribution to the MCC, which is one of only 60 nationally-recognized cancer institutions in the country that focuses on research, prevention, education and treatment of the disease. In addition to making donations, Napier Realtors® ERA collects and recycles more than 250 magazines monthly to provide MCC patients with reading materials as recreational resources. Address labels are concealed with a Napier sticker. Napier associates also volunteer their time to help staff various events at the center. Currently, the company is planning a silent auction in an effort to raise funds for the center during its annual awards dinner. "We are grateful for the generosity of Napier Realtors® ERA staff," says Maureen J. Baker director of development, MCC. "I would love to see this become a trend in Central Virginia."
