ERA® affiliates nationwide participate in fundraising tradition
PARSIPPANY, NJ, May 1, 2003 – Throughout this month, ERA Real Estate sales associates and brokers will make a difference in their communities during "A Day in May for MDA," a coast-to-coast fundraising event that provides support to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
Every year, ERA brokerages and sales associates each select one day in May to host everything from walk-a-thons and bowl-a-thons to black-tie galas, silent auctions, golf tournaments, bake sales, garage sales and dinner theater shows to raise money for MDA. The funds are then presented to the non-profit organization at the national MDA Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon.

Martin Smith, senior vice president, marketing, ERA Real Estate said, "ERA brokers and sales associates have made personal commitments to MDA, and their collective efforts illustrate just how much can be accomplished for the people this charity serves. ERA affiliates across the nation have generously given of their time and efforts to help raise more than $30 million over the past 25 years for this worthy organization."
As a special "thank you" to one of its largest corporate sponsors, MDA awards the ERA sales associate who raises the most money and the ERA broker from the office that collects the most money in May with a trip to Hollywood and a front row seat to see celebrities perform live on the MDA Labor Day Telethon.
"MDA donations remain in the communities where the funds are raised to assist local residents affected by neuromuscular diseases, which is important to brokers and sales associates as they strive to make a difference in the communities they serve," explained Martin Smith. "The funds help everyone from children with muscular dystrophy who enjoy the annual summer camp programs to the adults who benefit from the ongoing advancement in treatments. It also impacts families who participate in the MDA wheel chair and leg brace repair purchase assistance program."
ERA Freeman & Associates, Realtors of Gresham, Ore., has been collecting money for MDA for nearly two decades and will join the national Day in May effort. "It's very important to give something back to the community," said broker Doug Freeman. "We have a great relationship with children in our area who have muscular dystrophy. Every year, we go to summer camp and see how important camp is for these children and their families. It really motivates us to help make the days a little brighter for Jerry's Kids."
Proving that the commitment to MDA is truly a team effort, the corporate staff of ERA Real Estate will support the work of its affiliates by hosting a bowl-a-thon in May.
This year marks the beginning of the brand's second quarter century of support for MDA. It is the sole corporate sponsor of MDA from the real estate industry. MDA is the world's largest non-governmental sponsor of research seeking causes and effective treatments of neuromuscular diseases, sponsoring more than 400 research projects annually. The fundraising efforts of the ERA system are especially important to MDA because the association's programs are funded almost entirely by private contributors. MDA seeks no government grants, United Way funding or fees from those it helps.
