Bine ati venit! Welcome to Romania
Romania is the largest of the Balkan states and is referred to as the crossroads of Europe, located in the South-Eastern part of Central Europe, in the Northern part of the Balkan Peninsula bordering the Black Sea.

The country is divided into 41 districts each led by a prefect named by the government. Romania's territory is approximately 237,500 sq. km., about half that of France. The country is bisected by the Carpathian mountain chain, an area rich in mystery where castles, fortresses and churches emphasize the natural beauty of the region.

Romania's capital, Bucharest, has been given the nickname 'Paris of the Balkans', but the medieval city of Sibiu in Transylvania came to the fore when it was crowned European Capital of Culture in 2007. The capital is one of Europe's most populated cities with a population close to 2.5 million.

The population of Romania is just above 22 million and the official language is Romanian – the only language of Latin origin in Eastern Europe.

Transylvania's Saxon towns reflect Romania's cultural heritage and is home to Bran Castle, made famous by its associations with the mythical Dracula. Other fascinating places to visit are the legendary decorated monasteries of Bucovina and the beautiful rural village of Maramuras.

Over the last years, Romania has emerged as a popular tourist destination for many Europeans (more than 60% of the foreign visitors were from EU countries). Romania's Black Sea coast, stretching over 200 km provides clean sandy beaches with minimal tides – ideal for young children. They also have something for everyone, including some very popular spa treatment centres offering mineral-rich mud baths, thalassotherapy and the famous Romanian Gerovital cure. Romania destinations such as Mangalia, Saturn, Venus, Neptun, Olimp, Constanta and Mamaia (called the Romanian Riviera) are among the most popular attractions during summer. During winter, the skiing resorts along the Valea Prahovei and Poiana Brasov are popular with foreign visitors. For their medieval atmosphere and castles, Transylvanian cities such as Sibiu, Brasov, Sighisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Tārgu Mures have become important tourist attractions for foreigners.

The climate of the country is temperate with four distinct seasons. Temperatures in the summer average over 70°F with July & August peaking at 79°F.

In January 2007 Romania became a Member of the European Union, following the footsteps of its neighbouring countries.

However, out of this number, only 1,700 have real estate transactions as their main business activity.
